My name is Ms. Carranza, and I will be your child's teacher. I am delighted to have your child in my class this year. I am dedicated to providing a safe and cooperative learning environment that allows all students to grow academically and personally. Your child will be a part of many exciting and rewarding experiences this academic year with your encouragement. 

My classroom is a work-oriented environment, where students are self-motivated and able to communicate their ideas freely. They will receive strong guidance when necessary, but my overall goal is to build critical thinking skills. I will do this by providing them the autonomy to investigate materials through student-centered discussions, and I will not solely rely on lectures. 

I feel that developing a safe, orderly, and nurturing environment is the responsibility of all classroom participants. Therefore, I have high expectations for myself and have high expectations for my students. With hard work, patience, and your support, I do not doubt that we can all succeed this year, learn from one another, and have fun in the process. 

I have compiled this class syllabus to provide information on the new school year's policies, procedures, and expectations. Please review the syllabus with your child. I look forward to a great year. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me through the school or your child.

6-8 Middle School Literacy Lab Class 2022-23

Class Description:

In this class students will be provided with explicit, structured, and systematic methods of instruction through the usage of The Language Foundations Program by focusing on the areas of phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, spelling, and comprehension. 
 

Supplies/Materials: 

Teacher will provide students with all necessary materials.  3 student workbooks, Alphabet strip, letters, mirror,  and Alphabet Arc.

Students need to have:

1 box of colors, pencils, and 1 set of ear buds or ear phones

Six Weeks Grading Periods:

First Six Weeks – August 10 to September 16

Second Six Weeks – September 19 to October 28

Third Six Weeks – October 31 to December 16 

Fourth Six Weeks – January 9 to February 16

Fifth Six Weeks – February 21 to April 14 

Sixth Six Weeks – April 17 to May 25
 

Expectations for Face to Face Classroom Instruction:

1. Come to class on time! Once class begins any interruptions are impolite and distracting. Be sure to read the UISD handbook policy on tardies.

2. Come to class prepared.  Always bring pens, pencils, paper, assignments, projects, and or homework. You will need them EVERY DAY. Stay organized throughout the course. 

3. Avoid being absent.  Please see the handbook for attendance policy. Missing a day will put you behind. Always find out what you have missed and make up your work immediately! This is YOUR responsibility!

4. Turn in assignments on time. Refer to the District handbook for policy.

5. Group Work. When working with a peer or group make sure to stay focused and do your assigned part. Remember each one is receiving a grade. 

Grades

Six Weeks Average

1.  Each Six Weeks Average will be calculated as follows: 

Tests, projects, Book Reports    = _50____ %

Quizzes, Daily Work, Homework = _50____ %

2. Progress Reports

All students will receive a progress report three weeks into the six weeks grading period. 

3. Incomplete Daily Assignments will be Taken home and due the next day

Assigned Seating/School, Student, and Teacher Property:

1. Students will be assigned desks whether working independently, with a partner, or in small groups

2. Students are to sit in assigned desks even when there is a substitute.
